Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Metal Detector (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our mobile application available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.
1. Who We Are
Metal Detector is published by the developer of the App (“Developer”). For privacy-related questions, data requests, or complaints, contact:
Email: privacy@metaldetector.app
2. Scope
This policy applies to the Metal Detector mobile application and any related subscription features offered within the App. It does not apply to third-party websites, services, or app stores (such as Apple or Google), which have their own privacy policies.
3. Information We Process
The App is designed to work primarily offline. We do not operate backend servers that collect App usage data, detection streams, or personal profiles.
3.1 Device sensor data (processed locally)
When you use detection features, the App reads data from built-in device sensors, including:
- Magnetometer — to estimate total magnetic field strength and X/Y/Z axis components;
- Motion-related sensors (such as accelerometer, gyroscope, and device-motion fusion, where available) — to display sensor availability and support calibration guidance;
- Proximity sensor (where available) — to display hardware availability on the sensor status screen only.
These readings are processed in real time on your device to show values, charts, alerts, and calibration status. They are not uploaded to Developer-operated servers.
3.2 Detection history (stored locally)
The App may automatically save detection snapshots on your device while measuring and when you pause detection. Saved records may include timestamps, magnetic field values, axis readings, risk/threshold labels, and your selected display unit. History is capped at a limited number of recent records. You can delete individual records or clear all history from within the App.
3.3 App settings and preferences (stored locally)
We store your in-app preferences on your device, such as:
- display unit (µT, mG, or G);
- sound and haptic alert settings;
- metal detection threshold;
- appearance (light/dark theme);
- language preference;
- onboarding and subscription-related local flags needed for App functionality.
3.4 Exported images and photo library access
Subscribers may export a snapshot of the current on-screen detection summary as an image. If you choose to save that image, the App requests permission to add a photo to your library. The App does not read, scan, or upload your existing photos or videos. Export and sharing are initiated only by you through the system share sheet or save action.
3.5 Purchases and subscriptions
Metal Detector Pro offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions (for example, monthly and yearly plans). All payments, billing, receipt validation, refunds, and subscription management are handled by the applicable platform:
- Apple — for App Store purchases on iOS; and/or
- Google — for Google Play purchases on Android.
We receive only the information necessary to determine whether a subscription is active (such as product identifiers and entitlement status through each platform’s billing APIs). We do not receive or store your full payment card number, bank account details, or billing address.
4. Data Collection Summary
The table below summarizes how the App handles common data categories for Apple App Privacy disclosures and Google Play Data safety declarations:
| Data category | Collected by Developer? | Shared with third parties? | Purpose |

| Analytics, diagnostics, or crash data | No third-party SDKs; no Developer-operated analytics | No | — |
5. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not require you to create an account. The App does not:
- collect your name, email address, or phone number through the App itself;
- collect precise or coarse location data (GPS);
- access your contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera;
- use third-party advertising networks or personalized ads;
- embed third-party analytics, attribution, or cross-app tracking SDKs;
- upload detection history or live sensor streams to Developer-operated servers;
- sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
6. How We Use Information
We use the information described above solely to:
- provide core detection, calibration, charting, and alert features;
- save and display local detection history as configured in the App;
- remember your preferences across App sessions;
- generate export/share images when you choose to do so;
- verify subscription status and unlock Pro features;
- comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.
7. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
Where applicable data protection laws require a legal basis, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the App and optional subscription features you request;
- Legitimate interests — to maintain App functionality, prevent abuse, and improve reliability, balanced against your rights;
- Consent — where required for optional actions such as saving images to your photo library or other platform-specific permissions you grant.
8. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share personal information with third parties for their independent marketing purposes.
Information may be disclosed only in these limited situations:
- Platform providers — Apple and/or Google process payments and subscription status according to their own privacy policies;
- Your actions — when you use the system share sheet or save an export, you choose where the content is sent or stored;
- Legal requirements — if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request;
- Protection — to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the Developer, or the public, where permitted by law.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
- On-device data (history, settings) remains on your device until you delete it within the App, clear App data in system settings, or uninstall the App.
- Subscription records are retained by Apple or Google according to their policies. We retain only the minimum local entitlement state needed for the App to function.
- Support communications — if you email us, we retain correspondence only as long as needed to respond and maintain records where required by law.
How to request deletion: Because we do not maintain user accounts or cloud copies of your detection data, deleting local history in the App, clearing App storage, or uninstalling the App removes Developer-accessible data from your device. For any privacy request we can assist with, email privacy@metaldetector.app with the subject line “Data Deletion Request.”
10. Device Permissions
| Permission / access | Purpose | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Magnetometer & motion sensors | Core detection, charts, calibration, and sensor status screens | Yes, for core functionality |
| Photo library (add / write only) | Save exported detection snapshots when you choose “Save Image” | Optional |
| Haptics & audio feedback | Alert you when readings cross configured thresholds | Optional (user-controlled in Settings) |
You can manage or revoke permissions in your device settings. Some features may not work if related permissions or hardware are unavailable (for example, on devices or emulators without a magnetometer).
11. Subscriptions and Platform Billing
Pro subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. Refunds are handled according to the applicable store’s policies, not by the Developer directly.
Platform terms that may apply include:
- Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement (iOS);
- Google Play Terms of Service (Android).
12. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction, including 16 where applicable under certain laws). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
13. International Users
The App is available internationally. Because data is primarily stored on your device, it generally remains in your physical possession. If you contact us by email, your message may be processed in countries where we or our email service providers operate. Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
14. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of personal information, and to data portability.
14.1 All users
- Delete local detection history within the App;
- Adjust or disable alerts and preferences in Settings;
- Revoke photo or sensor-related permissions in device settings;
- Uninstall the App to remove locally stored App data;
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through Apple or Google account settings.
14.2 EEA, UK, and Switzerland
You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise rights, contact us at the email above. We may need to verify your request.
14.3 California (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know, access, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To submit a request, email us with “California Privacy Request” in the subject line.
15. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the data we process. Because most data stays on your device, you are responsible for securing your device with a passcode, biometric lock, or equivalent protection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
16. Third-Party Services and Links
The App may link to or rely on platform services controlled by Apple or Google. Their handling of information is governed by their respective policies:
17. Important Disclaimer About Detection Results
Metal Detector estimates magnetic field strength using consumer device sensors. Results are provided for informational and auxiliary purposes only. They do not constitute professional measurement, engineering advice, or proof of the presence or location of metal, wiring, pipes, or other objects—especially inside walls or concealed structures. Always follow applicable safety rules and use qualified professionals when needed.
18. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or store policies. When we make material changes, we will post the revised policy at this URL and, where required, provide additional notice within the App or through the applicable app store listing. Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
